Timberview HS Shooting Victim Dies In Second Shooting

Zacchaeus Selby-Mukum was 15 years old when injured in the Timberview High School shooting. He was shot again Monday night and died.

ARLINGTON, Texas — A North Texas teenager who survived the 2021 shooting at Timberview High School has died after being shot again in Arlington four years later, police confirmed.

The Arlington Police Department (APD) reported that officers responded to a shooting call at approximately 5:50 p.m. Monday at an apartment complex located in the 2400 block of Laurelwood Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered 19-year-old Zacchaeus Selby-Mukum lying in the parking lot with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died, according to APD.

Arlington police confirmed that Selby was the same individual who had been one of the three victims shot during the 2021 Timberview High School incident. At this time, however, it remains unclear if there is any connection between the two shootings.

“We are going to go where the facts lead us and if it leads us down that road perhaps we’ll let you guys know. But at his time, we don’t think that it’s related in any way,” said Alex Rosado, Public Information Officer with the Arlington Police Department.

The shooter involved in the 2021 Timberview High School incident, Timothy Simpkins, was convicted of attempted capital murder and sentenced to 12 years in prison. He was also given an additional two years for unlawfully carrying a weapon in a prohibited place.

Mansfield Independent School District (ISD), which Timberview High School is part of, issued a message to parents on Tuesday following the news of Selby’s death:

“Mansfield ISD is saddened to learn of the death of former student Zacchaeus Selby, and we are committed to supporting members of our Timberview High School family who are touched by this loss. Our dedicated counselors are available for any students or staff members who may need them, and additional resources are in place to assist the campus at this time.”

At present, Arlington police have not released any information regarding suspects or made any arrests in connection with Monday’s shooting. Witnesses told officers they heard arguing shortly before the gunshots rang out.

“Key part of the investigation is what he was doing there and why. And we’re still kind of ironing some of those things out and try to determine what caused all this,” Rosado added.

While the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, APD investigators have not ruled out the possibility that “high-risk activity may be involved.”
