According to Governor Greg Abbott’s Office, citing the National Weather Service, significant rainfall is expected across the eastern half of Texas from Wednesday into Thursday. Several inches of rain could lead to flash flooding in North, Central, and East Texas, with the potential for severe weather, including large hail, damaging winds, and possible tornadoes. Texans are urged to stay informed by monitoring local forecasts.

State Response and Preparedness

Governor Abbott assured residents that Texas is ready to deploy emergency resources to support local communities in responding to potential flooding and severe weather threats.

“Texas is prepared to deploy emergency response resources to help local communities respond to potential heavy rainfall and flash flooding across the state,” said Governor Abbott. “Texans are urged to regularly monitor road conditions before traveling and check TexasFlood.org for up-to-date flood information. Remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown. I appreciate the dedication of our emergency response personnel as they work tirelessly to assist their fellow Texans during these storms.”

At the Governor’s direction, the Texas Department of Emergency Management has mobilized key state resources, including:

  • Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (Texas A&M Task Force 1 and Texas Task Force 2) – Swiftwater Rescue Boat Squads to assist with flood rescues, along with Type 3 Urban Search and Rescue Teams.

These assets are in addition to resources pre-positioned last week in anticipation of this weather event.

How Texans Can Prepare
