CORSICANA, Texas — A staff member at Corsicana Independent School District was injured on Tuesday after trying to dodge a chair thrown at them by a student, according to school officials.

The incident took place at Collins Intermediate School, the same campus where earlier this school year, an assistant principal was severely injured during a confrontation with a student.

In the recent event, district officials reported that a paraprofessional was hurt after a student threw a chair at them. The staff member fell while attempting to avoid the chair as it slid across the floor in a small classroom. The paraprofessional was treated by the campus nurse before being taken to receive further medical attention, though details about their injuries have not been disclosed.

District police reviewed video footage, confirming the staff member’s injury occurred during the fall. The situation was quickly resolved, and there was no need to place the campus on lockdown.

The incident follows a similar, more serious event earlier in the year. In August, Collins Assistant Principal Candra Rogers was airlifted to a hospital after a student caused a disruption in her classroom. Rogers was later revealed to have been blinded in one eye when a student threw a hanger at her, knocking her eye out of its socket. She later spoke out about the need for better classroom safety and specialized services for students with aggressive behaviors.

No further information about the latest incident has been released.
