Police Arrest Suspect in North Texas Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash

Arlington, Texas — A man has been arrested in connection to a fatal hit-and-run that occurred in June 2024, resulting in the death of 30-year-old Daniel Cruces, the Arlington Police Department announced on Tuesday.

Police say 25-year-old Joel Sac Tambriz was arrested by Victoria police on March 10, facing a charge of collision involving death.

The incident occurred around 2:01 a.m. on June 9, 2024. Officers responded to the intersection of State Highway Spur 303 and South Center Street, where they discovered Cruces lying unresponsive in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police reports.

Witnesses told investigators that Cruces was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk, moving from the north side to the south side of the intersection when he was struck by a black Honda Civic traveling eastbound on State Highway Spur 303. The driver, later identified as Tambriz, did not stop and fled the scene, police said.

Authorities later located the abandoned Honda Civic in the 700 block of State Highway Spur 303, not far from the crash site. The vehicle was registered to Tambriz, and investigators found his documents and phone inside. Additionally, Tambriz had been pulled over by police in the same vehicle earlier in January 2024.

Tambriz was booked into the Victoria County Jail and is now awaiting extradition to Tarrant County.
