An American Airlines spokesperson confirmed that a Boeing 737-800 on a flight to Denver International Airport (DIA) “experienced an engine-related issue” on Thursday.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the plane landed at DIA around 5:15 p.m. after the crew reported engine vibrations. Once on the ground and taxiing to the gate, one of the engines caught fire.
The 172 passengers and six crew members were evacuated, with air slides deployed to assist in the emergency exit. An airport spokesperson stated that twelve people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
A video from inside the airport showed smoke billowing from the plane, with passengers seen standing on the aircraft’s wing.
The fire has since been extinguished. The FAA confirmed that it will conduct an investigation into the incident.
