Plano PD Bomb Squad Investigate Suspicious Device at Prosper High School, Turns Out to be Lunchbox

PROSPER (WBAP/KLIF News) – Things are back to normal on Prosper High School’s campus Thursday morning after Plano Police Department’s bomb squad was called in to check on a suspicious device, which turned out to be a lunchbox.

In a statement, the Prosper Independent School District said a custodian saw someone run up to the school and throw what looked like a package at the front door and then run off around 11:45 Wednesday night.

The custodian called the Prosper Police Department, who then reached out to the Plano Police Department.

Lieutenant Ernest Oldham said the bomb squad was called in to investigate the device around 12:45 a.m.

He said despite the outcome, the department takes these calls very seriously.

“For the most part we usually go out on a concern. Regarding this particular circumstance, it was a heightened sense of awareness that turned out to be nothing,” said Oldham.

The incident had the area around the campus, located in the 300 block of Eagle Drive, blocked off for a few hours. Authorities from Prosper, Plano and Collin County responded to the incident.

The scene was cleared by 3 a.m. and classes went on as scheduled.
