PLANO (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Plano Police Department said that drag racing is to blame for the February 10 car crash that claimed the lives of two local teenagers.
Investigators said Lilly Davis, Samantha Sacks and Kendall Murray were racing another car when their Porsche Macon lost control and hit a tree on Mira Vista Boulevard.
The department’s David Tilley said they’ve spoken with the passengers in the second car, who actually saved the life of the sole survivor inside the burning vehicle.
“That other car stopped and the occupants of that vehicle are some of the people who assisted in pulling out the surviving victim,” he said.
Tilley said during the race, the driver of the Porsche ran a stop sign moments before the fatal impact.
“What if there had been somebody coming across that road or somebody walking their dog. Their could have been additionally casualties involved in the wreck,” he said.
Tilley said the department is always warning teens against the dangers of drag racing, which is an illegal game that is bound to end in tragedy.
“I am sure this young lady and the other driver in the other vehicle probably thought that nothing bad was going to happen. They probably thought it was just innocent fun that turned very deadly and very tragic,” he said.
Tilley said that at this point in the investigation, there is no evidence of alcholol being a factor in the crash. The department is waiting on the medical examiner’s report to determine that.
He said they’re still looking into whether the other participants in the race will face charges.
