Growing up in the Midwest, Christmas was something my family launched into at full speed. Then that seemed to slow a bit the older I got.
Present Day, my Christmas comes in the middle of the month. Traveling back to the Kansas City area to see my family, exchanging gifts, then it’s back home to Texas.
Christmas Day is filled with phone calls and a tradition I started a few years ago: Watching the entire Beatles Anthology in one day. I’ll leave you to judge me on that.
I admire those who love everything about this time of year. I also feel sorry for those who sink into a depression because a loved one is no longer alive or simply because of the colder temperatures and increased lack of sunlight.
It’s a different feeling for me. Family members and friends are a phone call or text message away but I’m not physically with them. The only real annoyance is the fact that practically nothing is open.
But given my spending the holiday with family comes about two weeks ahead of the actual December 25th holiday, I will take this opportunity to with those who celebrate a very Merry Christmas.
