Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Commemorative Air Force is hosting a show dedicated to World War Two aircraft this weekend at Dallas Executive Airport. “Wings Over Dallas” runs through Sunday.
“This is not like an aviation museum where the airplanes just sit there static, and you read about the history on panels,” says CAF Executive Vice President Adam Smith. “This is living, breathing history. This is seeing airplanes, the propellers turning, hearing the engines.”
CAF is relocating to Dallas and will feature about 40 planes this weekend along with 20 military vehicles.
“It’s not about war,” says a man playing the role of General Douglas MacArthur. “It’s about the heroes who go to war.”
CAF says a show dedicated to World War Two highlights the way the war touched every American through those who were drafted to those who stayed behind and worked to produce material for the war effort.
CAF is hosting 30 World War Two veterans at the show this weekend, including four veterans who were at the attack on Pearl Harbor.
“We have a gentleman here who’s 101 years old,” “This is the last time we can honor the veterans of World War Two, and the people who didn’t make it through World War Two is very much in the forefront of our minds.”
