Juveniles Responsible for Elementary School Playground Fire in Haltom City

haltom-city-fdHaltom City (WBAP/KLIF News) –  Students and staff at West Birdville Elementary School are happy to hear that the suspects responsible for ruining their new playground equipment have been caught. Authorities said two juveniles are responsible for setting the equipment, worth $42,000.00, on fire the same day it arrived on July 18th.

Birdville Independent School District’s Mark Thomas said it’s a relief. “Obviously we’re pleased that the system worked. The Crime Stoppers tips came in that the fire department needed to identify the culprits.”

In a statement, Haltom City Fire Chief Charles Napp said “The successful conclusion to this case is a great example of a community working together.” He said one of the tips came from West Birdville Elementary School and lead to the identification of the suspects, one of whom admitted to starting the fire.

Thomas said although the students did not have the new equipment to play on when school started, the school did have other resources for the children. He said the equipment will have to be reordered.
