Dallas County District Attorney Susan Hawk Resigns

Susan_HawkDALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas County District Attorney Susan Hawk has resigned.

In a letter to Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Hawk wrote, “It is with a heavy heart that I must tender my resignation as Dallas County District Attorney.”

Hawk cited her health as the reason why she is stepping down.

“It’s been an honor and a privilege to serve this office and the citizens of Dallas County, but my health needs my undivided attention,” Hawk wrote.

Hawk was absent for weeks at a time while she sought treatment for depression. She sought the treatment in both Houston and at a facility in Arizona.

Hawk beat District Attorney Craig Watkins in November 2014. She took office in January 2015.

Hawk beat a lawsuit trying to force her from office.

Hawk concluded her resignation by saying her purpose has been to help people and she has loved every minute of it.

Governor Abbott will appoint someone to serve the rest of Hawk’s term in office.
