Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – If you’re headed out to enjoy the lake or campsite this Labor Day weekend, Lieutenant Lonnie Haschel with the Department of Public Safety says be safe. Law enforcement will be out in force, on the roads and the water.
“Don’t get behind the wheel of a boat if you’ve had anything to drink at all,” said Haschel. “Because just a small amount can start to impair your normal functions. We don’t want you having a holiday you remember for the wrong reasons.”
As you’re headed home, he says if you’ve been drinking, don’t get behind the wheel of your car, either. Ask a sober friend to drive, call a cab, or try out one of those new ride sharing apps you’ve been hearing about.
Last year, state troopers alone issued about 500 DWI tickets, 1,000 seat belt and safety seat citations, and 9,000 speeding tickets. That’s not counting local law enforcement.
