LONG ISLAND, NY. (WBAP/KLIF News) – A police officer in New York is honoring the memory of the five officers who died in an ambush in downtown Dallas last month.
Officer Kenneth Michaels is a K9 handler with the Suffolk County Police Department in Long Island.
Tasked with coming up with a name for his new four-legged partner, Michaels decided to do something special and call him “Dallas V.”
The department said in a post on Facebook that it hopes the 1-year-old German Shepherd will preserve the memories of Senior Cpl. Lorne Ahrens, Officer Michael Krol, Sergeant Michael Smith, DART Officer Brent Thompson and Officer Patrick Zamarripa.
“Dallas V” started his training just prior to the July 7 attack.
