It’s already been a busy storm season. First, we had the December 26th tornadoes where 13 people died and that’s not even considered storm season. This past Tuesday, Tornadoes hit the towns of Cool, Stephenville and Tolar. I was in Tolar and saw the destruction. Five of twelve mobile homes destroyed, lives torn apart, children crying in their parents arms because they don’t know where they’re going to sleep that night or their favorite stuffed toy is now ruined.
Amazingly, no one died in Tuesday’s storms, but lives were still permanently affected. This is the same routine we seem to go through every year. We see this destruction on the news and for those of us in this business, we’ve become desensitized to it.
This past Monday, I was in Glenn Heights where I got to see some of the damage from the December 26th twisters. Homes destroyed and damaged and two church were hit. All that’s left of one of the churches is the frame, the other church had its sanctuary blown away.
So what’s the point in reliving all of this, you ask? Safety. Be safe this tornado season. WBAP and KLIF have the best team of weather predictors and storm chasers I’ve seen working in radio. When that Emergency Alert System warning goes off, get to your nearest closet or tub or sturdy structure in the house and wait it out. Don’t go outside and try to see the tornado, or think that your house won’t be the one that’s hit next. It can happen to you, it can happen to anyone.
Be safe and be aware.
