How connected are you? I don’t mean, “How many important, high ranking people do you know?” I mean, how often are you online throughout the day? How many times a day do you check your phone and go online to see what’s happening in the world? Lately, I’ve been trying to scale back after realizing I was probably on mine a little too often.
It did hit me as funny the other day when the hubby came home after work (which for me is nearly my bedtime) and asked how the voting was going and I replied, “Well, the boys voted for a shorter bubbly bath in exchange for one episode of Curious George before bed”. And then it hit me: He was asking about the vote in Washington earlier this week that was going to decide whether the government would end up shutting down. I had been offline, totally and completely disconnected from Grown Up Land, for about 4 hours. I made dinner, fed the boys, read with them, gave them their baths and got them ready for bed. After I answered him, I quickly jumped back on my phone to see what I’d missed in those 4 hours.
It’s crazy to think about it like that. 4 whole hours and I was already out of touch.
What on earth did we do before smartphones?
