$850K Worth of Cocaine Seized at Hidalgo International Bridge on Easter Sunday

HIDALGO, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers intercepted a major narcotics smuggling attempt on Easter Sunday, seizing nearly $850,000 worth of alleged cocaine at the Hidalgo International Bridge.

Details of the Seizure
On April 20, CBP officers assigned to the Hidalgo International Bridge encountered a black GMC SUV attempting to enter the United States from Mexico. The vehicle was referred for further inspection, which included the use of non-intrusive imaging technology and a trained canine unit.

During a physical search of the SUV, officers discovered 24 packages containing suspected cocaine concealed within the vehicle. The total weight of the narcotics was approximately 63.8 pounds.

CBP officers seized both the vehicle and the narcotics. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) took the driver into custody and launched a criminal investigation. The identity and nationality of the driver have not been disclosed.
