A man fired shots at Lake Worth police, led them on a chase and barricaded himself in a Fort Worth home, police said.
A police chase and standoff in Fort Worth, Texas, ended in the death of a suspect on Thursday, January 30, 2025. The incident began when Lake Worth police attempted a traffic stop, during which the suspect fired at officers and fled. The chase concluded in the 1700 block of Skyline Drive in Fort Worth, where the suspect barricaded himself in a home.
During the hours-long standoff, the suspect set off fireworks, throwing them at responding officers[1][4]. Around 8:25 p.m., the suspect exited the home with a gun aimed at his own head[4]. Fort Worth SWAT officers deployed less-lethal rounds in an attempt to de-escalate the situation. However, the suspect then redirected his weapon towards the officers and opened fire.
In response, a Fort Worth SWAT officer shot the suspect. The man was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Fortunately, no officers were injured during the incident.
The Fort Worth Police Department is now leading the investigation into the shooting. The identity of the suspect has not been disclosed, and some details about the incident, including the initial reason for the traffic stop, remain unclear.
