DALLAS — An innocent person was killed Thursday following a Dallas police chase that ended in a crash and shooting in Red Oak.
What We Know:
The incident occurred around 10:25 a.m. on I-35 near the Red Oak Road overpass. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Dallas police officers were pursuing a murder suspect when the suspect collided with another vehicle.
Investigators say one person in the other vehicle was killed, and another was seriously injured in the crash.
DPS troopers reported that the suspect then exited his disabled car, armed with a gun, and attempted to flee on foot. Dallas police officers shot the suspect, and DPS officers provided lifesaving treatment before he was transported to the hospital.
Authorities confirmed that no police officers were injured during the incident.
Images from SKY 4 showed at least two wrecked SUVs on the side of the interstate, with paramedics loading several people into ambulances.
DPS is investigating the officer-involved shooting, while the Red Oak Police Department is handling the investigation into the fatal crash. The Office of Community Police Oversight is also conducting a review of the incident.
All southbound lanes of I-35 were briefly shut down during the investigation and cleanup.

The cause of the crash remains unclear, and investigators have not disclosed whether the suspect fired his weapon. The suspect’s identity has not been released.
