The Texas Legislator Elects a New Speaker of the House

(WBAP/KLIF) – AUSTIN, TX – Dustin Burrows has been elected as the new Texas House Speaker. Burrows is an attorney from Lubbock, who was first elected to the Texas House in 20-14. As speaker, he will be tasked with appointing lawmakers to legislative committees and selecting who will serve as each committee’s chair.

Burrows was elected on the second ballot with 85 votes, and defeated Democrat Ana Maria Rodriguez Ramos from Dallas and Republican David Cook from Mansfield. He replaces Dade Phelan who served as the Speaker from 2021 through December 2024.
