Senator Ted Cruz, Representative Collin Allred Agree to October 15 Televised Debate

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – There’s going to be a debate in a closely watched United State Senate race out of Texas.

Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Houston and his Democratic challenger Collin Allred of Dallas have agreed to go head to head in their first televised debate on Tuesday October 15, just three weeks before election day.

It’s being hosted by our media partner WFAA TV at their downtown Dallas studio and will also air on News/Talk 820AM and 93-3 FM WBAP and 570 KLIF @ 7pm.

It’s going to be moderated by WFAA TV’s senior political reporter Jason Whitely and Dallas Morning News reporter Gromer Jeffers Junior.

The event is being called “The Texas Debate” and will air live across TEGNA Texas stations’ on-air and digital platforms.

“This is an important election for Texas,” said Leslie McCardel, WFAA’s Executive News Director. “As a local broadcaster, we are committed to fostering civic engagement. We look forward to hosting an open, informative debate that voters can watch live on our many platforms.”

The Texas Association of Broadcasters will fund a real-time Spanish language translation of the debate that will be fed on an alternate audio channel of the satellite feed.

Cruz has held his U.S. Senate seat since 2012 and is seeking a third six-year term. Allred was elected to the U.S. House in 2018.
