‘Active Shooters’ Target Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Security Forced to Return Fire Early Saturday Morning

Active shooters targeted Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland early Saturday morning, according to officials.

A press release from JBSA stated that security personnel were forced to return fire on “active shooters” at the main gate of the Chapman Training Annex around 4:30 a.m.

JBSA officials have not disclosed whether anyone was injured in the shootout or how many shooters were involved.

The gate to the training annex is currently closed while the incident is under investigation. Traffic is being redirected to an entry point north on Ray Ellison Boulevard.

Officials noted that the shooters are not believed to have any military affiliations.

Local law enforcement responded outside the military facility and are conducting an investigation into the incident.
