Grand Prairie Police Investigating Deadly Street Racing Crash

GRAND PRAIRIE (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Grand Prairie police are investigating a street racing crash that killed four people, including two children, Saturday night.

According to a news release, it happened around 8:15 on South Beltline Road near Marshall Drive. A Chevy Traverse traveling north of South Belt Line Rd. was turning left onto Kingston Drive when it collided with a red Dodge Charger.

Witnesses told police they saw a red car racing another driver when it plowed into the SUV. The wreckage soon burst into flames.

The driver of the second vehicle involved in the race, a white Dodge Charger Daytona, fled the scene after the crash, according to investigators.

Grand Prairie PD said three people in the Traverse were pronounced dead a the scene. Two others were taken to the hospital. One died and another remains in critical condition.

Investigators say 20-year-old Jaime Mesa was driving the red charger. He’s facing four counts of manslaughter, four counts of racing on a highway causing death, one count of racing on a highway causing serious bodily injury and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

22-year-old Anthony Morales is accused of driving the second vehicle. He’s facing four counts of racing on a highway causing death and one count of racing on a highway causing serious bodily injury.

Mesa is still hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
