UPDATE 08/07 3:15 PM – The 40-year old male suspect in this afternoon’s shooting of a Tarrant County deputy is reported dead; removed by officers involved in a standoff at a home in the area of Haltom City. As the body of the suspect was removed from that home, smoke was seen billowing from the house. It is unclear what caused the smoke. The officer remains in reported serious but stable condition, with Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn reporting the deputy’s injuries are not life threatening. The officer shot is reported to be on the department’s SWAT team and was reported to be serving three felony warrants related to sex crimes against children. Suspect’s name is not released; shooting and incident reported to be in the 2900 block of Elinor Road, near Beach and 28th.
At about 2:10 p.m., nearly two hours after the shots were fired, deputies were seen removing someone from the house. Smoke was seen billowing from a broken window, but it’s unclear if it was from gas used by law enforcement or a fire.
While the standoff was underway, Haltom City police asked people to stay away from the area near Chesser Boyer Road and 28th Street and for those already in the area to shelter in place.
The wanted man’s name was not released, but Gabbert said he was wanted for two charges of sexual crimes against children and a third charge for holding an individual under 17 against their will.
UPDATE 08/07 2:39 PM – The “shelter in place” order remains in effect for the area of Cheser Boyer Road and 28th Street in the Haltom City area. Police are reported to be engaged seeking the withdrawal of a suspect believed to have shot a Tarrant County Sheriff’s deputy three times as he attempted to serve three felony warrants to a 40 year old man. The shooting is believed to have occurred in the 2900 block of Elinor Street, near Beach and 28th. A heavy police presence is reported in the area, and police are asking people to stay away from the area. Warrants attempted served are reported related to sex crimes against children, and holding a person under the age of 17 against their will. The identity of the suspect is not yet released.
UPDATE 08/07 2:07 PM – A “shelter in place” announcement is issued by Tarrant County officials after a Tarrant County Deputy is reported shot three times while serving a warrant in the Haltom City area. Police say the order is issued for people in the area of Cheser Boyer Road and 28th Street. The shooting was initially reported to be in the area of Beach and Elinor Streets; specifically, in the 2900 block of Elinor Street. People are asked to steer clear of this area until the county issues revised or additional warnings.
