DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The Dallas Police Department released surveillance photos of the suspect in a fatal shooting near a Wells Fargo Bank in Uptown on Wednesday.
It happened around 5 p.m. on McKinney Avenue near the Maple-Routh Connection as the victim, 46-year-old Roderick Butler, was reportedly in the area to get coffee.
He was found lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound. Investigators said the suspect used an AR-15 to shoot the veteran, who struggled with homelessness and PTSD, in the face.
His mother Tonie told our media partner WFAA TV she wants the suspect caught before another senseless tragedy occurs.
“He could come back and it could be somebody else. This time it was Roderick,” she said.
Detectives believes the unidentified suspect was also homeless. Police said the weapon was not found at the scene which means the suspect could still be armed.
“You got a crazy person out there just shooting people at random. That’s not safe for nobody,” said Roderick’s brother Brent.
Police stress that the incident seems to be isolated and are asking for the public’s help with the investigation.
