ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News ) – Arlington ISD is joining in the festivities in honor of the Texas Rangers first-ever World Series win.

The district announced Thursday that it is canceling classes on Friday, so students and staff can attend a celebratory parade near Globe Life Field tomorrow.

“This is the first championship win for the Rangers in their history,” said Dr. Steven Wurtz, interim superintendent, Arlington ISD. “It’s a huge day for sports fans, and we’re excited to celebrate with the team and the community.”

The Texas Rangers were established in 1972 after the Washington Senators moved to Arlington.

Wednesday night’s victory in Game 5 against the Arizona Diamondbacks is their first time to win the World Series 4-1.

The Rangers asked Arlington ISD marching band students to perform at the parade.

The district said its coordinating students from six of its high schools to make up one combined band.

“We are thrilled about this opportunity for our students,” said Wurtz. “They are so talented and everyone will know that after they see them perform at the parade.”

The parade kicks off at 12:15 pm off of Cowboys Way, will make its way up AT&T Way then will turn east on Road to Six Flags before ending at Globe Life Field.

Wurtz said that massive traffic issues are expected which will make transportation to and from schools and other district facilities difficult throughout the day.

All sporting events on Friday will continue as scheduled.
