Jury Awards $1 Million Verdict in Tony Timpa Wrongful Death Civil Case

Dallas (WBAP/KLIF News) – A Federal Jury Wednesday awarded one million dollars to the son of Tony Timpa whose father was a trucking executive from Rockwall who died in August 2016 after being restrained on the ground in handcuffs by Dallas Police Officer Dustin Dillard who had his knee in Timpa’s back.

The jury also found that Dillard along with officers Danny Vasquez, Raymond Dominguez violated Timpas’ constitutional rights.

The jury ruled a fourth officer, Kevin Mansell did not violate Timpas’ rights.

Timpa had called 911 saying he needed help because he was schizophrenic and was off his medication and had taken cocaine. When police arrived he was handcuffed and put on the ground face down for a reported 14 minutes.

The Dallas Medical Examiner later ruled Timpas’ death a homicide citing the toxic effects of cocaine and psychological stress associated with physical restraint.
