DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – After an hours-long search, a murder suspect accused of shooting a Dallas police officer is in custody.
The Dallas Police Department said the man was arrested in Lewisville Thursday afternoon. The situation started around 1:25 p.m. when officers responding to a shooting in the 4800 block of Scyene Road.
Cell phone video from a witness shows the gunman arguing with someone outside a white truck then drawing his gun. Investigators said the suspect and the victim knew each other.
Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia said two police officers actually witnessed the fatal shooting.
“The officers got back in their car and gave chase. At one point during that chase, the suspect turned his vehicle and started driving at the officers on the other side of the street. Officers again had a shootout with the suspect. The suspect shot at the officers the officers shot back. It was at that point one of our officers was struck,” he said.
The bullet hit the officer’s bullet proof vest. The suspect, whose name has not been released, took off and was arrested hours later.
The officer was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.
Dallas police will give more information on Monday.
