Dallas CASA Hosting Online Information Session, Needs More Male Volunteers

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News ) – A North Texas children’s advocacy non-profit is in need of more male volunteers.

Dallas CASA is holding a virtual information session Thursday evening to talk the responsibilities of the task and answer any questions.

The Court Appointed Special Advocates work with child welfare and the justice system to ensure kids do not fall through the cracks.

Last year, Dallas CASA volunteer advocates served 2,611 children removed from their homes due to abuse of neglect.

Although more than 50% of these children are male, only 17% of the non-profit’s current volunteers are.

Unfortunately, for many children in foster care, their CASA volunteer is the only consistent, caring adult in their lives during a difficult time.

Doug Bily has been volunteering for over ten years and makes this pitch to those who are interested.

“Give us one year and if your work schedule is such that you may feel like you don’t have enough time. We’ll suggest you partner with someone who is just joining,” he said.

Former Dallas CASA Board of Directors chair and volunteer advocate Corey Anthony will be a keynote speaker during the information session.

Bily is hoping for a large turnout tonight and hopes that prospective volunteers realize the powerful impact a few hours a week can have on a child in distress.

“The biggest gift you can give anybody is your time. We ask people ‘give some time and see if this is not a win win for you with CASA,” he said.

Anyone interested in attending can RSVP by emailing [email protected].
