Fastest Growing Major City in the Nation Releases 2024 Budget

(WBAP/KLIF) — A budget increase is coming for the fastest growing major city in the nation.

Fort Worth City Manager David Cooke (City of FTW)

The City of Fort Worth’s recommended budget for fiscal year 2024 is 12% higher than 2023 and falls just under $2.6 billion. The city’s Reyna Telles says the budget includes an increase of 294 employees, $1 million towards homeless services, and millions to improve neighborhoods. The budget recommends a January 2024 increase in the storm water fee of 15%, and water and wastewater rates by 3.5% and 2.9%, respectively.

City Manager David Cooke’s recommended budget includes a general fund budget that tops $1 billion for the first time ever. According to Telles, safety is one of the city’s top priorities when it comes to the council’s goals. He says with soaring property values over the past three years, the budget also includes a property tax reduction.

The city will hold several public meetings to gain feedback on the budget, the first of which is on Wednesday, August 16th, at 6:00 p.m.
