Timothy Simpkins Sentenced to 12 years in Prison for Timberview School Shooting

The jury sentenced Timothy Simpkins to 12 years in prison for the shooting at Timberview High School in 2021.

Simpkins was found guilty of attempted capital murder last week in the shooting that resulted in three people wounded. No one was killed.

The jury only spent a few hours on the same day as closing arguments in the punishment phase of the trial.

FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – The jury is deliberating in the punishment phase of the trial for the man convicted of attempted murder in the 2021 shooting at Mansfield’s Timberview High School.

The potential sentence for Timothy Simpkins ranges from 5 to 99 years, or life in prison. During closing arguments, the prosecution asked the Tarrant County Jury to bring the maximum punishment.

The Defense argued the conviction alone carries serious weight and asked jurors for probation.

Simpkins testified that he’s remorseful, but prosecutors brought new evidence at sentencing that revealed another shooting Simpkins was said to be involved in.

The jury received the case before 1 p.m. on Monday.

The shooting happened after a fight in a classroom that was initiated by another student.

Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – The jury that convicted a Timothy Simpkins of attempted capital murder in a 2021 shooting at Mansfield-Timberview High School heard new testimony Friday as the sentencing phase of the trial got underway.

After 10 hours, trial Judte Ryan Hill released the jury as the hearing will resume this monring.

Simpkins was convicted of attempted capital murder for shooting and wounding three people at the school on October 6, 2021 after a fight initialted by another student.

As the hearing got underway, new evidence presented by the prosecution painted Simpkins as a drug dealer who had been involved in an alleged drug deal gone bad just a week prior to the shooting at timberview. Arlington police say that Simpkins fired a a gun during that incident, allegedly at the older brother of Zachaeus selby,he timberview student who started the fight in the classroom.

Several witness took to the stand to include Simpkins’ former girlfriend Jada Anderson who testified to seeing a gun on occasion in a side pocket of Simpkin’s car.
She also testified that she had never know Simpkins, who she had dated for over a year and a half, to be violent, answering in the affirmative to a question by the defense that problems began in a two week period leading up the the school shootint.

Meantime, a police officer who processed evidenced seized from a residence linked to Simpkins included individually packaged bags of pot. The officer testified that it is typically indicative “drug distribution.” He testified that the evidence was found in a bedroom, but that he didn’t know whose bedroom it was.

Simpkins faces 5 years to life in prison.
