Fort Worth PD Body Cam Video of July 5th Shooting

(WBAP/KLIF) — Fort worth police shared video of the officer involved shooting that claimed the lives of two men.

Police Chief Neil Noakes says both 21-year-old Billy Smith and 30-year-old Braun Shay Mentor appear to have fired handguns, with Mentor targeting police. The incident occurred on July 5th during a reported fight at a gathering south of Meacham Airport. Both men were shot and killed by officers who announced themselves after returning fire.

The officer involved shooting at the corner of Ross Avenue and 32nd Street was triggered when an officer noticed a man pointing a gun at an injured person on the ground, when a shot rang out. Smith was hit by the officer’s gunfire. then another man, Mentor, aimed a gun at officers and allegedly fired. That’s when another officer returned fire, hitting him. Both Mentor and Wmith later died of their injuries.

Fort Worth detectives are continuing their investigation to determine how the other four victims were shot. Watch body cam video here.
