FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The Fort Worth Police Department is asking for the public’s help after a dead newborn baby girl was found in the front yard of a home on Birchman Avenue near the intersection of I-30 and Camp Bowie Boulevard this week.

Investigators believe the child was put in the yard sometime between 10 p.m. Monday, June 5, and 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 6.

Fort Worth PD Officer Buddy Calzada has a message for the baby’s mother.

“Yes, this is a bad situation and we want to help you through this bad situation. Most importantly, we want to make sure you’re okay medically,” he said.

Police are asking residents who live in the area to check their security camera footage and for anyone with information to call them.

A medical examiner will determine how the child died.

While police have not said if they think the newborn was alive when left in the yard, there are options for a mother who is not able to care for an infant.

The Safe Haven Law, also known as the Baby Moses Law, gives parents a safe and legal choice to leave their infant with an employee at a designated place.

That includes a hospital, freestanding emergency medical care facility, fire station, or emergency medical services station.

Anyone with information is asked to contact FWPD investigators at 682-483-1510 or 682-382-1524.
