Dallas Mayor says Austin Police Officers are Welcome to apply in Dallas

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The City of Dallas has a message for Austin Police Officers who may be considering leaving their department.

There’s more fallout between the Austin Police Department and the Austin City Council. The city has taken money away from Police in recent years, and this month, rejected a proposed 4-year employee contract.

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson directed a weekend Tweet to Officers, saying “we want and need you.”

The Mayor told WBAP/KLIF News that Dallas is an officer friendly city.

“We’ve got competitive salaries, we’ve high morale in our department,” said Mayor Johnson. “I think the case makes itself and I expect there to be Officers from other departments who want to come here.”

A number of Austin Officers have said they’re considering retiring from APD amid continued fallout with the city.

Mayor Johnson said he’s confident that the message is loud and clear that Dallas backs its Police Department.
