FRISCO (WBAP/KLIF) – The Dallas Stars will honor Veterans on Veterans Day.
The team hold Military and Veterans Appreciation Night presented by Boeing on Friday, November 11 against the San Jose Sharks at 7:30 p.m.
Retired U.S. Army Command Sergeant Major Gretchen Evans will participate in the ceremonial puck drop prior to the game. Evans, a highly decorated veteran, author, and athlete, served 27 years in the Army before suffering a life-altering injury while deployed in Afghanistan. She has since become a nationally-known motivational speaker and been inducted into the U.S. Army Women’s Hall of Fame and U.S. Veterans Hall of Fame – all on top of a military career that saw her receive numerous medals and awards from the Bronze Star to a Presidential Unit Citation Medal, several Global War on Terrorism ribbons and six Meritorious Service Medals. Earlier this year, Evans received the Pat Tillman Award for Service at the 2022 ESPYS, in part for creating the adaptive racing team Team UNBROKEN.
Early arriving fans will receive complimentary Dallas Stars military caps courtesy of City Credit Union. The team will wear special themed jerseys during warmups that will be auctioned off at DallasStars.com/JerseyAuction.
Proceeds collected from the warmup jersey auction and the Dallas Stars Foundation 50/50 Raffle on Friday night will benefit America’s VetDogs, a national non-profit that trains and places guide and service dogs with veterans, first responders, and active-duty service members with disabilities, free of charge. Evans is a longtime supporter and program graduate of America’s VetDogs, where she met her service dogs Aura and Rusty.
She shared her story with Stars players before Thursday’s practice.
