(WBAP/KLIF) – At least two tornadoes touched down in Northeast Texas on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
Extensive storm damage was reported around the Sulphur Springs area. National Weather Service teams are assessing the destruction.
The NWS confirmed an EF 2 tornado near Athens in Henderson County.
NWS also confirmed a high end EF 3 twister in Lamar County near Paris. Lamar County Judge Brandon said on Saturday that 41 structures suffered major damage and more than 30 destroyed.
The Red Cross set up a shelter for residents left without a place to stay in Lamar County.
