North Texas Mayors & Salvation Army Combine Forces

(WBAP/KLIF) — As thousands are continuing to struggle with the impacts of inflation, the Salvation Army has teamed up with North Texas mayors to provide love and service to those in need.

Mansfield Mayor Michael Evans

The partnership, announced Wednesday morning in Arlington, involves a friendly competition, as the mayors will serve as Salvation Army bell ringers. According to Salvation Army Spokesman Ryan Barrera,
the mayors will compete in a friendly fund-raising competition for bragging rights in North Texas.

Last year’s fund-raising champion was Mansfield Mayor Michael Evans who raise a little over $100,000 during one day of bell-ringing. The entire competition raised upwards of $137,000 in 2021.

Participating in this year’s competition on December 10th are:

Jim Ross, Mayor of Arlington

Michael Evans, Mayor of Mansfield

Laurie Bianco, Mayor of Dalworthington Gardens

Russ Brewster, Mayor of Pantego

Linda Martin, Mayor of Euless

Oscar Trevino, Mayor of North Richland Hills

Barrera says the Red Kettle Campaign is meant to keep hope alive during a time when North Texans are facing extreme hardships. The organization is in need of more bell ringing volunteers this holiday season.
