Dallas Police Officer Dies following Crash with Wrong-Way Driver

UPDATE Oct. 12, 2002 3:30 p.m.

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – A procession of Dallas Police Patrol cars and SUV’s moved from Methodist Hospital to the Medical Examiner’s Officer. It was a show of respect for officer Jacob Arellano.

Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia said the 3-year Officer was in uniform driving to work when his SUV was hit head on by a wrong way driver.

“In his morning roll call, Officer Arellano’s name was called like it is every day,” said the Cheif. “Only this time, he didn’t answer the call.”

It’s believed the wrong way driver was intoxicated. She was hospitalized in serious condition. The fallen officer’s brother also works for DPD. Officer Arellano leaves behind a girlified and an infant son.

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – A Dallas Police officer has died from his injuries after a wrong-way crash on Spur 408 at Kiest Blvd late Tuesday night.

Police said the off-duty officer, who as of this post has not yet been identified, was hit on his way to work last night around 11:58 p.m.

He was traveling NB went he was struck by a motorist going southbound in the northbound lanes.

All lanes had been blocked on Spur 408 at Kiest since 12:30 a. m. Traffic started moving around 6 a.m. according to Mike Forbes from our media partner WFAA-TV who was on the scene for hours.

He said an 18-wheeler was involved and another vehicle, according to Forbes.

The Dallas Pd traffic unit is investigating.
