Granbury ISD Teacher Resigns After 12-Year-Old Student Suffers Third-Degree Burns During Science Experiment

GRANBURY (WBAP/KLIF News ) – The Hood County District Attorney’s Office could soon be investigating a science experiment gone wrong at Granbury Middle School last Friday.

A teacher has resigned after a 12-year-old student suffered third-degree burns during the incident and underwent treatments at North Texas hospital.

In a statement on Twitter, Granbury Independent School District the educator “is no longer an employee of the school district,” and that the investigation was being “turned over to law enforcement/proper authorities.”

Granbury Police revealed new information about what happened this week. The department’s Lt. Russell Grizzard said the teacher, a 37-year-old woman, put hand sanitizer on the student’s hands and lit it on fire.

He said the experiment had been conducted several times without incident. The procedure was to show students how quickly the alcohol in the hand sanitizer would burn.

Granbury PD are still investigating the incident. The department will eventually turn the case over to the Hood County DA for review.
