NEW BOSTON (WBAP/KLIF) – The man convicted of opening fire inside Italy High School in 2019 died in prison on Monday, according to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
“On March 21, 2022 at approximately 1:50 AM, staff at the Telford Unit observed inmate, Padilla, Chad, unresponsive in his cell,” TDCJ said in a statement. “Staff entered the cell and began life-saving measures and 911 was contacted. Unit medical staff arrived and assisted with life-saving measures. Inmate Padilla was taken on a gurney to the unit medical facility. EMS arrived and paramedics pronounced inmate Padilla deceased at 2:25 AM. The Office of Inspector General was notified. TDCJ received inmate Padilla on July 24, 2019 to serve a 40 year sentence for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and attempted capital murder out of Ellis County.”
The death is under investigation by the Office of Inspector General as a suicide.
20-year-old Paddila was serving a 40-year prison sentence for shooting a classmate six times. The girl survived.
