Austin, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – Fomer staffers of Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office blasted him issued a rare public statement as legal proceedings continue in their whistleblower case.
The group accuses Paxton of lying about them and the investigation according ot the Texas Tribune. The statement reads in part, “The most basic qualifications of an attorney general are respect for truth and respect for the law. Ken Paxton has neither.”
Last year, four former aides reported Paxton to the FBI for alleged bribery. they say Paxton is now lying about the probe as he faces a contentious re-election bid against 3 GOP challengers. Paxton has told a number of media outlets that he doesn’t know the specific allegations against him and alleges that it is the former staffers who broke the law.
The group said that their preference was to remain quiet amid the ongoing legal case, but they felt obligated to correct the record.
The group said in a statement:
“We confronted Ken Paxton about his and his agency’s corrupt and criminal conduct, and, when he would not abide by the law, we reported him to the FBI. Paxton is under criminal investigation, not the whistleblowers.”
In recent weeks, Paxton’s 3 gop opponents have been highly critical of the corruption investigation against him.
Paxton has denied all allegations; an investigation conducted by his office “cleared” him of wrongdoing.
