WASHINGTON D.C. (WBAP/KLIF News) – Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes of Granbury will appear in a virtual court hearing Wednesday afternoon to ask for to be released from jail pending trial on seditious conspiracy charges connected to the January 6 Capitol attack.
Court records show attorneys for the leader of the far-right militia group will argue that Rhodes was at the Capitol to offer some security and went inside after hearing that someone had been shot and needed medical help.
The defense must also prove that Rhodes is not a danger to the public or a flight risk.
Rhodes is being held in a federal prison in Oklahoma.
He’s been jailed since his January 13th arrest on charges that he plotted with 10 others to attack the U.S. Capitol to stop Congress from certifying President Biden’s 2020 election victory.
Rhodes has pleaded not guilty to the charges. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.
