(WBAP/KLIF) — Walmart announces the new COVID pill is now available in North Texas. In a statement, Thursday, officials with Walmart and Sam’s Club say select pharmacies in the DFW area are selling the FDA approved COVID antiviral pills from Merck and Pfizer.
Infectious disease expert Dr. Luis Ostrosky says the Pfizer pill is highly effective, but in order to be effective, the medication must be taken during the onset of symptoms. The Pfizer pill is most effective, however, infectious disease expert Luis Ostrosky says it has some side effects. For those on medications that interact with the Pfizer pill, Merck has developed an alternative that does not.
According to WFAA, the FDA says patients should take the pill as soon as they test positive for COVID-19 and start showing symptoms.
