COVID-19 Omicron Variant Reported at Frisco Lab

FRISCO (WBAP/KLIF) – The COVID-19 Omicron variant was identified this week in North Texas, according to a lab in Frisco.

The Ayass Bioscience lab confirmed with WBAP/KLIF News on Thursday that two patients recently tested positive for the new variant. Both were men, according to the lab. The patients were 35 and 40 years-old. Neither had a recent travel history. Dr. Ayass Mohamad said symptoms in both cases were minimal to none.

The doctor said his concern with Omicron is how quickly it can spread.

“The ability of the variant to replicate in stronger than other variants,” said Dr. Ayass. “It seems to be more contagious.”

The doctor said it also appears the severity of the variant is less than others.

Dr. Ayass said Thursday that his lab plans to report the cases to the county and state, as he said it has in cases involving other variants.
