Houston Homicide, Narcotics Investigating Fatal Astroworld Concert

HOUSTON- WBAP/KLIF – Houston Police Chief Troy Finner Saturday told those attending a news conference Houston Police Homicide and Narcotics Investigative Departments are a part of the probe into what went wrong at an Astroworld concert Friday night, in which at least 8 people died. The youngest victim appears to have been 14 years old, but authorities are still identifying victims and reaching their next of kin.

A security guard at the event reported reaching for someone at the concert and feeling a prick; passing out after that, paramedics are reported to have revived him with Narcan, used to reverse opiate overdoses. It is unclear if Narcan was used to revive other victims. Police are investigating why a portion of the crowd surged forward toward the stage, causing, according to reports, trampling of some or many of the victims. Several victims were reported being treated for cardiac arrest; the cause remains unclear.

Astroworld had a similar incident in 2019 in which some in the crowd surged around barricades. Officials reported a vastly beefed up security situation following a review of those events.
