Texas (WBAP/KLIF) – There is another challenge to Texas’ newly approved political maps. State Senator Beverly Powell – a Democrat who represents Texas District 10 – joined about a dozen Tarrant County residents in the lawsuit field in austin.
They call the Republican-drawn maps “one of the most extreme racial gerrymanders in the country.”
The new maps split district 10 in half. The Lone Star Project says the map “tore apart a coalition of minority voters [… stranding them in districts dominated by rural voters over a hundred miles away.”
The group says the maps violate the voting rights act.
