First Lady Jill Biden Visits COVID Vaccine Site in Dallas

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – First Lady Jill Biden urged North Texans to get vaccinated for COVID-19 while visiting a vaccination site in Dallas on Tuesday.

“We all carry each other through the darkest times. That is what we do as Americans,” said the First Lady. “I ask you to do your part. Choose to get the COVID vaccine.”

The First Lady met with staff and students at Dallas’ Emmett J. Conrad High School. Dallas Cowboys legend Emmitt Smith joined Dr. Biden on a tour of a vaccine site operated by Parkland Health & Hospital System in the school’s gymnasium.

Demand for the COVID vaccine remains low across much of the country, including North Texas.

“We’re not done yet. Right now only 40% of Texans are fully vaccinated and like Emmitt said it’s not enough,” said Biden. “And your lives matter to me and your president.”

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said on Tuesday that just over 50% of residents have had at least one COVID shot. Medical experts believe herd immunity can be reached when the vaccination rate is closer to 70% or higher.

The First Lady’s stop in Dallas marked the first of several amid a multi-day trip to vaccine sites in Texas and Arizona.
