Austin, Texas (AP) – The former CEO of New York’s independent electricity marketer has been named interim CEO of the manager of the electric grid serving 90% of Texas.
Brad Jones has been hired for up to one year as chief executive of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas.
ERCOT board member Mark Carpenter calls Jones “an experienced leader” who “understands the ERCOT vision and mission.”
He takes over a grid manager whose management has been assailed over its handling of a February cold wave that caused the grid to collapse.
More than 100 people died, many of hypothermia.
Meantime on Twitter, there was no shortage of reactions to the naming of the interim CEO:
What yall should be announcing is how are yall preparing for this summer heat? Or yall ok with some Texans dying from the heat too, in order to balance those that died during the freeze?

It’s ridiculous Texans have to bailout the ercot market and gas for 30 years through securitization, this all could of been mitigated if only y’all would of listened to the ferc 2011 report. Lack of oversight from puctx and txlege with poor management by ercot makes me sick.

What's his plan to ensure we have electricity year round and aren't charged $9,000 per MWh everytime it gets a little warm or little colder than normal?
