ASSOCIATED PRESS – (WBAP/KLIF) – Outbreaks of Covid-19 are now reported in child migrant processing and holding facilities in both Midland and Carrizo Springs. About 50 juveniles held in a quickly repurposed “oilfield man camp” in the Midland area are reported as testing positive for the virus; roughly 100 are reported as being Covid-19 positive at the Carrizo Springs camp.
Carrizo Springs facility leaders report all migrants who enter the facility are immediately tested for Covid-19, and tested again five days later. Minors who test positive are put into medical isolation beds. The Hill reports Carrizo Springs has nearly 200 medical personnel and 12 epidemiologists among staffers. All staff members are fully vaccinated, officials say.
The Midland facility Covid-19 outbreak comes at a time Texas health officials deemed the “man camp” drinking water unsafe for use by the children; it may be used only for laundry and other uses not associated with drinking or bathing water. The state is reported to be readying to deliver water to the Midland area camp.
