The Tarrant County Elections Office Hires More Board Members to Count Mail-In Ballots, After Scanning Error

TARRANT COUNTY (WBAP/KLIF)- The Tarrant County Elections Office hired additional ballot board members after facing a shortage of workers available.

“This was due to a variety of reasons. Most of them expressed concerns about the pandemic and having to work with multiple others around them and certain difficulties to achieve social distancing especially the work that has to be done paired,” said Heider Garcia, Tarrant County Elections Administrator.

Garcia said they needed more resources to help recount ballots that were defective due to a scanning error from the barcodes.

“In practical terms the ballot board will have shifts to cover all hours of the day until everything in house has been counted by 7pm Tuesday,” he said.

To prepare for that, he asked each party to provide a list of extra board members available.

The Election Board held a special meeting to approve the lists and add on 56 board members.
