DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas Police are asking for the public’s help reducing a recent spike in violent crime.
The Dallas Police Department said Monday that nine murders occurred in the city between last Friday and early Monday morning. According to Major Danny Williams, there have been more than two-times as many murders this month compared to October of last year.
“For the month of October 2020 there has been 28 murders in the City of Dallas,” said Major Williams. “For the month of October 2019 there were a total of eight murders in the City of Dallas.”
According to Major Williams, the majority of recent homicides in Dallas have involved acquaintances.
“We’re asking residents to be better in charge of their emotions, manage their anger, watch their alcohol, and be aware of the places they’re hanging out,” Major Williams emphasized.
He stressed that local residents are the eyes and ears of the community and that anything suspicious should be reported to Police immediately. According to DPD, 195 murders have been reported so far in 2020. Last year in Dallas there were a total of 209 murders.
